STuffed animals
Fifth grade students learn how to sew! We learn the running stitch, the blanket stitch, and some students choose to learn more complicated stitches like the satin stitch, french knot, and cross stitch. We also learn about the process of following a pattern to cut out our own stuffed animal patterns! Then we sew on all of our details and stuff our felt creations.
Watercolor painting
In this unit, students learn how to paint with watercolors using five different techniques. In class, we create an underwater ocean scene that shows a foreground, middle ground, and a background. Students might do extra research to create a realistic underwater ecosystem!
ceramics
In this sculpture unit, 6th grade students learn how to build a three-dimensional sculpture made out of clay. They learn how to make a pinch pot and add coils and slabs to create just about anything they want!
